"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard.
Do not let the pain make you hate.
Do not let bitterness steal your sweetness.
Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree,
you still believe it to be a beautiful place."

The Secret to Success | Motivational Speaker

Monday, July 23, 2012

Today I was sitting here (on the sofa with my laptop...Oh, the benefits of working from home.) watching some webinars & some episodes on www.framedshow.com and, I thought to myself...

"What am I doing with my business
that needs to change?"

A couple of months ago- Zack & I were on a road trip to Moscow, Idaho for a weekend. Zack likes to put on music and jam to his favorites, but this time he put on something different, way different than his usual sweet jams...He put on a motivational speaker, Eric Thomas.

I caught myself saying "Why didn't I think of that?" Or, I was nodding my head to everything that he was saying... "He is amazing!"

The best thing ever is getting inspired, wanting to do more, and the want/need to be more successful...

One way I go to inspire myself is the good ol' www.Pinterest.com (and I know for a FACT I am not the only one that uses Pinterest as a creative inspirational source.) If you don't know what Pinterest is, you need to go check it out now, & you're welcome. HahaPinterest is great to make inspirational boards and become inspired to do crafts, DIYs, cook amazingly yummy meals, look at gorgeous photography, and much, much more.

The other ways I go to get inspired, and motivated are: reading my business books, watching webinars, tuning into my favorite episodes on The Framed Show, or listening to motivational speakers.

So today, I re-watched this video by Eric Thomas & he just really pumps me up and makes me want to push myself to be the best I can be.

I never heard a motivational speaker like Eric Thomas before. He really makes you think. The photo above is one of my favorite lines from the speech I heard him say. And it's so true.

"When you want to SUCCEED as bad as you want to BREATH
THEN you will be successful."

I want to share this same video that I listened to on my way to Moscow, Idaho that one day.

Maybe it'll inspire you in your business or your career.
Let me know what you think or what your favorite part was!

I have no left brain!!

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

...Ok, I kid I kid.... So, maybe I do have a left side of my brain. But- I only think with my right side... Let me explain.

(Found image via www.Pinterest.com)

{Left Brain}
I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.

{Right Brain}
I am the right brain. I am creativity. A free spirit. I am passion. Yearning, Sensuality. I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand between bare feet. I am movement. Vivid colors. I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas. I am boundless imagination. Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything I wanted to be.

I started my business a couple years ago... and I always thought to myself "I can do EVERYTHING!" By everything I mean the business side, finances, photography, editing, taxes, the business side, and finances. ;)
Well, to make this short and sweet.... I was wrong. WAY wrong.
It was scary to drop my job, and go into something that I am passionate about full time. I mean, every single little 'what-if's' come into your mind... 'what if I fail....' 'what if I am actually really bad....' 'what if.... what if.... what if.....' But I jumped, and I was confident, and honestly felt like I could do every task that a business does. I mean, I am a one-woman show, right? It's not like I am taking on LOTS of work, right? WRONG!! I've been doing tons and tons of research and came across this photo about a year ago. I read it and it occurred to me....
  1. I hate math.
  2. I hate equations.
  3. I am NOT good with numbers.
Hmm... So, obviously I should NOT be handling the business financial side to my business. But I still did. Honestly, I lived the 'struggling artist world'. I lived it because,
  1. I could survive.
  2. I love what I did/do.
So that went on for awhile (year or so)...... until I met Zack at the beginning of this year. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering...  (does that career choice scream LEFT brain or what!?) Anyway, Zack and I started dating. He is truly a blessing that has entered into my life...(but that's a different story.) Zack and I always brain storm about my business, and what I can do to better it, expand it, etc. etc. etc. Well, one day he asked me about my finances, and what I do with the business money, paychecks to myself, taxes, etc... When I explained to him what I did, his jaw seriously touched the floor. I'm not even exaggerating. (now, this is pretty embarrassing to talk about as to I can't really deal with all that financial stuff myself, I mean.. I try, and I CAN. But, I am not saving as much to expand my business, etc.)

I am a Right Brain.

Zack spent the next week or so building an Excel spreadsheet for me to input every single little thing I do into. It makes business graphs, calculates cash flow, and then spits out numbers that tell me what I owe myself in a paycheck in that month and MORE! (he is pretty amazing.)

The moral of this blog post is, well.. two things.
  1. If you can't do it, that's FINE- someone else can!
  2. I am a right brain.
Anyway, I've had a couple people ask me lately about how I started my business, and the business side of it. I just wanted to create this blog for them & anyone else to figure out what side of the brain YOU are. Just know, if you can't do it (like me) OUTSOURCE (Or, talk to ZACK! He'd gladly help.) You don't have to, and it's probably better that you don't. haha. :)

A little Marilyn Monroe wise words...

Remember....

A little bit o' this... and a little bit o' that...

This is me, Kelsi Pitts.... I am the photographer for It's the Pitts Photography. I really didn't know how to
start this blog, or really what to say. (honestly, I still really don't know what to say....)

Over the past few months I have been battling with "To blog, or not to blog..." I've asked friends, other photographers, other bloggers.. trying to see if it should be something I should get into. I mean, everything now days is social media, and I catch MYSELF reading other peoples blogging daily.

This morning I asked my photography fans on my Facebook page & asked a simple question....

"If I was to start a blog,
would you read it?"

The answers came quickly and I even got some great ideas about things to blog about! I'm not a writer by any
means... but, I am going to try my best! I was brainstorming ideas this morning about what it is that I actually CAN talk about, and share with you fellow readers.... Below is a photo from my 'brainstorming' session this
morning when I was trying to come up with SOMETHING that I could talk about, especially in this first post. I think it's just really going to be hard this first time and get easier as I update this daily. Yes, I said it... I am going to try my hardest to update the blog daily.

So, here is what I came up with for y'all to read! I will be blogging daily about one of the following:
  • Most Recent Photo shoot...
  • Volunteering/Events
  • VLOG!
  • Clients
  • Wedding Shoot
  • How-to-do-it (This will be a once a week post on a 'how to do it' as far as lighting, camera angles, editing, I might even give away a preset or two every now and then)
  • Q & A (ask me questions, and I'll answer- it's that simple!)
  • My life. (this was an easy one...)
If any of you have ideas that you'd like to hear from me about, please let me know

This afternoon I had a wonderful photo shoot with a gal named Sam and her beautiful daughter. Here are a couple sneaks from the shoot... I just love tall grass in photos, adds such a wonderful pretty touch of nature...

Also, last week I did a photo shoot with a beautiful little girl who was going into brain surgery on Monday 7/16 (yesterday)...
Facebook updates today say she is doing GREAT and may be able to go home today! Just thought I'd share this because it's such a sweet story and
everyone's positive thoughts & prayers made a wonderful surgery, and a fast recovery.
Da da dats all for now folks! I appreciate everyone's continued support!
Stay tuned daily for new blogging posts!

Happy Tuesday!
